NATURE MATERNITY PHOTOS
EXPLORING THE FORESTS AND WOODS OF NEW YORK STATE
If you're dreaming of maternity photos in nature, there's truly no better place than the forests and wooded trails of New York State. From the Catskills to the Hudson Valley and beyond, these landscapes offer something quietly powerful—towering trees, dappled light, fern forests and the kind of peaceful stillness that feels like it was made for reflection and connection.
There’s something about being surrounded by nature that brings a grounded energy to your maternity session. Maybe it's the fresh air or the way the sunlight filters through the branches just right—but the woods have a way of softening everything. These sessions aren’t about being styled to the nines or striking a pose. They're about presence. Barefoot on the forest floor. Fingers tracing shoulders. That little pause when you feel your baby kick and you realize, this is real.
When we shoot your maternity photos in nature, I’ll help you find a spot that feels just right—whether that’s a trail you’ve hiked before or a hidden grove with wildflowers and winding paths. These aren’t your typical photo ops. They’re full of texture, movement, and meaning. We’ll take our time, wander slowly, and let the location speak for itself. Because pregnancy is a force of nature. And it deserves a setting that matches.
Maternity Photos Nature:
Real, Relaxed, and Full of Feeling
Pregnancy doesn’t always feel like a walk in the woods—but it sure can look like one. Whether you’re chasing golden light in a fern-filled forest or bundled in a cozy sweater while snowflakes fall, maternity photos in nature let us slow down and document this wild, fleeting chapter in a way that feels grounding and powerful.
Pregnancy doesn’t always feel like a walk in the woods—but it sure can look like one. Whether you’re chasing golden light in a fern-filled forest or bundled in a cozy sweater while snowflakes fall, maternity photos in nature let us slow down and document this wild, fleeting chapter in a way that feels grounding, not performative.
And if you're anything like most people I work with, you're not looking for stiff, styled-out sessions or someone asking you to 'look happy' with your hands awkwardly posed. You’re looking for someone who will give you space to move, to breathe, to laugh with your partner, and to feel that quiet magic growing inside you.
Explore the Forests and Woods for Nature Maternity Photos
Nature Maternity Photos
The forests of New York are made for maternity sessions. Tall pines, glowing ferns, golden leaves—these settings are more than just a backdrop. They tell a story. They ground us. And they somehow mirror all that quiet, powerful change that happens during pregnancy.
There’s something sacred about walking barefoot in the grass, or feeling sunlight warm your belly through the trees. It’s why I’m drawn to places like the Catskills, the Hudson Valley, and quiet trails tucked into upstate parks. These forests give us natural contrast—light and shadow, softness and strength—and that’s where the magic lives.
Spring Nature Maternity Photoshoots
Lush Forests, Golden Light and Fresh Life
Spring hits different when you’re growing a human. The world is coming back to life—and so are you, in a whole new way. We’ll chase those first warm days, find wild blooms, and embrace the soft light of the season.
What to expect: budding trees, muddy boots, and that crisp early light. Spring maternity photos in nature have this fresh, whimsical energy—perfect for celebrating beginnings.
Summer Nature Maternity Photos
Barefoot in the Forest and Rivers
Barefoot in the river. A breeze through the trees. Loose linen dresses and freckles on your shoulders. Nature Maternity photos during summer are all about movement and warmth. Early morning fog and late afternoon golden light. Floating in the river and finding forest nooks to create magic.
This is the season for river dips, barefoot trails, and sessions that feel more like a walk with a friend than a photo shoot. I’ll usually recommend a sunrise or golden hour session to beat the heat (and catch that delicious light). Bring the floppy hat, the gauzy dress, and your willingness to collaborate and create—we’ll handle the rest.
Fall Maternity Photos in Nature
Autumn Maternity Photos
The colors. The textures. The air. Fall is super popular for maternity photos in nature. We’re talking warm golden textures, layers that move with you, and exploring in the fields and forest. You don’t have to use colorful trees to express the Fall vibe. In fact, I prefer the overgrown grass and it’s neutral colors and textures to really highlight Mama.
It’s a season that holds space for both softness and strength. Whether you want to lean into the cozy-cabin-in-the-woods aesthetic or capture more moody photos in a forest, fall gives us mood, drama, and warmth.
Nature Maternity Sessions in Winter
Moody, Quiet, and Beautifully Raw
Now hear me out: winter maternity sessions? Seriously underrated. There’s something so cinematic about a snowy woodland walk or a quiet moment captured while snowflakes fall softly around you.
Whether you’re wrapped in a wool coat or leaning into a more ethereal look in the woods, winter sessions bring contrast and intimacy. We keep things short (and warm), but the result is stunning, artful, and unlike anything else. It’s perfect for a maternity session at home where we can move back and forth between inside and outside. Or renting an Airbnb in the Hudson Valley or Catskills.
My Approach to Maternity Photography in Nature
Moody, Connected, and Beautifully Raw
I don’t shoot with a shot list or a stiff formula. Instead, we create your vision together before our session through a great conversation and mood boards if needed. I show up ready to meet you where you’re at—emotionally, physically, and energetically. That might mean slow, gentle movement through a forest trail. It might mean dancing in a field or pausing to breathe in the air around you.
I’ll guide you, but never over-direct. I bring music, I bring calm, and I bring a whole lot of encouragement. My sessions are built around storytelling, real connection, and helping you feel like your full self—not a Pinterest version of what pregnancy “should” look like. I love movement and use subtle direction to collaborate with you in the moment so that your images are honest and feel true to you.
What to Wear for Maternity Photos in Nature
Styled or Casual?
Natural doesn’t mean boring. Think layers that move with the breeze like oversized linen shirts or flowy kimonos. Use colors that reflect the season, and outfits that feel like you. Cotton, gauze, knits, linen, and even a little sparkle if you’re feeling it. I send a full styling guide to every client, and I’ll help you prep every step of the way.
Not sure what to bring? My advice: bring three. Start in an outfit that you would share with friends and family and on social media. Then move to an outfit where your belly shows with a flowy layer for movement. And then a two piece bathing suit or bra and undies so we can get wet! Whether it’s a lake, river or even just the hose in the backyard, I love mixing water and maternity photos in nature. If it’s too cold for water, we can add a sweater or cardigan.
