Style Guide
for Expecting Mamas
Hello there!
I’ve put together a list of shops that range different styles and vibes for you that you may not have heard of before. This is just a jumping off point! The most important thing to keep in mind is to pick something soft and lightweight that has movement and the light can shine through it. Get a color that you love- something you feel amazing in. Then we’ll add neutrals to balance it all out.
I always want you to pick a style that feels like YOU! If there are others included in your session, we will style them around your outfit.
Anything I’ve listed that says I own it, you are welcome to borrow!

This is a great Linen Shop! They also have amazing pants, skirts, dresses and rompers. They carry cotton gauze as well. Gorgeous shop with so many great choices that can still be worn after pregnancy!

I love these to add some movement and softness to your outfit or over a bikini in the water. Free People has a large amount of them and I own several including the one above. I always bring them with me but there are new colors I don’t have yet!

I LOVE the cotton dresses from this shop. They have prints and solids and they are so soft and the light flows through them beautifully! I wear mine with a body suit underneath or a tank and boy shorts. I own these 3 listed below:
These skirts are amazing for bellys! They have a stretchy waistband that can go under your belly. They are perfect paired with a tank top or bikini top!
I love vintage pieces as well.
Dresses, skirts and tops all pair well for maternity. Thin silk robes, nightgowns, silk chiffon, pleats, etc.
This shop has great cotton palazzo pants with a good stretchy waistband for a more casual look
This shop has a the most perfect oversized shirts to add movement. I own this gold one, and the natural color.
If you are looking for a big impact style dress, this is the ultimate shop. She hand-makes all of her dresses and they are incredible- there are a ton of knockoffs out there but nothing matches the original.
This shop has some pretty basic things but if you look through there are some great dresses for the cooler months!
This shop has a great selection of BOHO dresses and skirts and soft gauze dresses. These are especially great if we’re getting wet at your session!
I also own these sheer pieces and you’re welcome to borrow them!
This is a great romantic dress from Hazel + Folk. It comes in many colors and they have a few similar BOHO dresses as well. These work well in water!
EPIC DRESSES
I own this dress in the gold shown above and a deep rust. They are one size fits most everyone, they don’t wrinkle and you get them dirty and wet!
I have also put together an Amazon list with some pieces that work well on camera and are budget friendly!
This is an amazing clothing rental store that a lot of my clients use during their pregnancy and for our Session!
ULTIMATELY
Your style is up to you! If you’re more comfortable in jeans and a great top or sweater, then let’s do that! Or if you want to get super funky- I’m all about it! Please don’t feel like you have to spend money on new clothes for our session- let’s pull from your own closet and make it work!
Here are some different style inspos to get you thinking in the right direction:
Jeans pair great with a tank or bra for open belly shots. We can pair it with an oversize shirt or a kimono.
Sheer fabrics like gauze and muslin are really nice for showing your shape and creating softness.
I also love adding a chunky sweater over a dress! This is great for kids too!
If we’re doing an in home session, less is more. Pair a sheer robe over bra and undies.
If you’ve got your own unique style, let’s use it!
It’s all about that softness and letting the light in!!
You can still use soft pieces even in the cooler months with long sleeves.
A dark color palette can be really fun when it’s done right especially in the Fall + Winter
Don’t be afraid to wear something body-hugging as one of your outfits! Pick a lightweight fabric that has some stretch to it.
This shop has romantic and sweet dresses that are bump friendly.
KIDS
If you have children who will be in the session with us, here are some shops you may not know about!
Super cute shop with a great Boho and Vintage Style. Sizes from newborn to 5T and occasionally some 6T + 7T.
Hands down one of my favorite shops. All the perfect neutrals in every color with timeless styles perfect for layering.
I love this entire look. The boots and socks combo is so sweet for a little girl.
This shop carries a large selection from multiple brands. Tons of neutrals and sizes newborn-7T
Great shop for knit overalls and rompers. Many different fabrics and colors for all kids!
This shop has options with fun personality! Great for little boys too!
Great shop for knits and cotton gauze. Large selection for boys too- pants they can run in and soft options.
This is THE source for BOHO/beachy vibes. Great options for boy + girls- even Mom too.
MEN
If you have a partner who will be in the session with us, here are some links that should help! I love layers for the cold season and soft and simple for the warm season. The wrong pieces can really pull down the styling and make the images feel more like snapshots so here are some inspo and shopping options to share with your partner. We will be sitting and moving so the better they feel in what they’re wearing, the better time we’ll have!
SHOES- they can make or break the outfit. No dress shoes please. Cool sneakers, great boots or even barefoot! I will be more picky about their shoes than anything else! Haahaa.
A colored Henley is a great balance between a casual T-Shirt and a button down. Especially if it’s tailored and not too oversized.
Black works great when paired with pops of color or all neutrals like camel. Just make sure you don’t both wear black bottoms- your legs will merge together!
Chinos and linen pants always look great. They come in tons of colors and are usually giving enough to sit in. Try a fun color with a neutral top.
I love taking a simple outfit and adding a classy layer like a tailored overcoat (not a suit jacket)
This is a great color combo paired with the right shoes to finish the look and keep it elevated.
This is perfect for a more simple and casual dresser (minus the hat). If he already has the pants and shirt, all you need is a great coat in flannel or corduroy.
I really love the softness of linen pants for men, especially if we’re going to in the water or woods. Pair them with a solid t-shirt, linen button down or a sweater.
Zara has a large selection of loose and tailored pants and different leg widths as well. I linked to the entire selection!
They have a great selection of linen shirts in so many different colors. I’ve linked to these but check out the entire selection!
See how the softness of everyone’s clothing really lends to the romantic and connected nature of the image? It really goes a long way!
An open jacket or corduroy shirt is a always a great option over a T-Shirt or plain shirt. It’s a great way to bring in some more color!
If they are a jeans guy, try a dark blue or black and paired with great shoes- NOT dress shoes. Again, make sure they can sit and move in them!
Here is another example of layering an overcoat with more casual pieces to elevate the look.
This is a great mountain man/natural look. It brings in a print and has layering with great shoes!
If we are going to be using water, make sure your partner has pants that can roll up at the bottom and still look nice.
Spring and Fall are great for T-shirt guys. A bright white T with an open linen or corduroy shirt looks great. You can even make it a cool band T-shirt or their fave worn in shirt!
These corduroy pants are popular for a reason. They fit really well while also allowing for movement. And they come in great colors!
For a more structured pant, soft chinos work nicely. These have some stretch in them while still giving a more polished look.
They have a great selection of nice linen pants with a range of styles. I linked to these but check them all out!
Zara has a great selection as well as some really nice colors!! Perfect to pair with neutrals.

Keep in mind that we will be out in nature, sitting on the ground, walking through overgrown grass, etc so make sure you’re
comfortable and wearing shoes we can adventure in (or take off).
