FAMILY STYLE GUIDE

Hello there!

I’ve put together a Style Guide for you full of inspiration and shop links.

This shows a wide range of different styles and vibes for you with some shops that you may not have heard before. This is just a jumping off point! The most important thing to keep in mind is to pick something soft and lightweight that has movement and coziness to it. I would love to focus on neutrals that are found in nature the same time of year as our session. Look at the landscape as you drive around and notice the colors and tones of the Season.

Cream, mocha, tan, espresso, rust, mustard, and ivory are always great base colors to start with in the colder months. Pops of primary colors are really fun in the warmer months !!

Please don’t feel like you have to buy everything new. You may find things in your closet that only need one new piece to make them work. Think in layers!! I love movement in my images so adding sweaters, scraves or flowing bottoms can do wonders for the romantic nature of my images.

I want you to pick a style that feels like YOU and I’ve also included inspo of what I visualize. Always pick Mama’s outfit FIRST! Then style your family around you.

I love look of a flowy bottom with an oversized sweater. This can be done with a dress, skirt or pants. Always think soft and light- linens, cotton gauze, knits, etc.

INSPIRATION for COOLER WEATHER

You can also bring in a pop of color with fun rain boots or tall boots that can handle wet grass.

Embrace playing with textures and layers by wearing pieces with movement.

For outside cold weather sessions, we can add a lot of vibe and movement with long coat or sweater coat and a great hat paired with the lux of a satin skirt.

Even neutral pants and a chunky sweater can work. As long as you can move and sit and bend in them. It’s all about that softness!!

An earthy color palette can read warm and cozy when color blocked like this. Add wool hats in colder weather!

I absolutely love the soft and timeless feel of a vintage white dress with lace and delicate details. Perfect for indoors or add a long cardigan/kimono and lace up boots for outside.

I love look of a timeless outfit of either a dress or skirt-top combo. Something romantic, breezy, that has movement and flow!

INSPIRATION for WARMER WEATHER

I love the addition of a fun hat as long as it doesn’t block the light on your face.

You can find the same movement with the right pants. I love the softness of mixed knits!

We can also bring in movement with your hair or scarves. I encourage you to wear it all down!

I love adding a bolder print along with neutrals. Especially if you have a kid with that personality!

Even a full neutral palette works if you mix the textures. As long as you can move and sit and bend in them. It’s all about that softness!!

If you are nursing, make sure to wear something that gives you easy access. I love taking nursing photos!

I absolutely love the soft and timeless feel of a vintage feeling white dress with lace and delicate details especially if the light can shine through. Perfect for wandering in nature, laying the grass, wading in a creek, playing in the backyard….

BEACHWOOD

This is one of my favorite Shops! They have amazing skirts, dresses and jumpers in fine linen and cotton gauze. These are pieces that will become staples in your closet. Their cuts are flattering on everyone!

I love this shop for a more classic Cottage Style dress. They have many colors and styles and they all add a beautiful movement.

I love this shop for their silk jumpers. This mocha color is gorgeous. They also sell the off the shoulder sweater but the jumper can also be paired with a chunky sweater or cardigan too!

I love these to add some movement and softness to your outfit. Free People has a large amount of them and I own several including the one above. I will bring them all with me but there are new colors I don’t have yet!

I LOVE the cotton dresses from this shop. They have prints and solids and they are so soft and the light flows through them beautifully! I wear mine with a body suit underneath. I own these 3 listed below:

COTTON FLOWER SKIRTS

These skirts are amazing for any stage of motherhood including pregnancy! They have a very stretchy waistband. They are perfect paired with a chunky sweater.

HAZEL + FOLK

This is a great romantic dress from Hazel + Folk. It comes in many colors and they have a few similar BOHO dresses as well.

JEN’S PIRATE BOOTY

This shop has a great selection of BOHO dresses and skirts and soft gauze dresses. These are wonderful for getting wet!

RECLAMATION

If you are looking for a big impact style dress, this is the ultimate shop. She hand-makes all of her dresses and they are incredible- there are a ton of knockoffs out there but nothing matches the original.

I own this Impact dress in dark Marigold and Rust. They are very flattering and fit everyone! They also don’t wrinkle so it’s a win win! You are welcome to borrow either color. So much movement!!

I love this shop for their flowy Linen Dresses. They have a store in Australia and one in the US. I find they have different selections on each site so definitely hit both up! The shipping from AU isn’t that crazy.

These pants have some stretch to them and are a great shape for boots and a chunky sweater or a light breezy top. They come in great neutral colors.

MEN

If you have a partner who will be in the session with us, here are some links that should help! I love layers for the cold season and soft and simple for the warm season. The wrong pieces can really pull down the styling and make the images feel more like snapshots so here are some inspo and shopping options to share with your partner. We will be sitting and moving so the better they feel in what they’re wearing, the better time we’ll have!

SHOES- they can make or break the outfit. No dress shoes please. Cool sneakers, great boots or even barefoot! I will be more picky about their shoes than anything else! Haahaa.

A colored Henley is a great balance between a casual T-Shirt and a button down. Especially if it’s tailored and not too oversized.

Black works great when paired with pops of color or all neutrals like camel. Just make sure you don’t both wear black bottoms- your legs will merge together!

Chinos and linen pants always look great. They come in tons of colors and are usually giving enough to sit in. Try a fun color with a neutral top.

I love taking a simple outfit and adding a classy layer like a tailored overcoat (not a suit jacket)

This is a great color combo paired with the right shoes to finish the look and keep it elevated.

This is perfect for a more simple and casual dresser (minus the hat). If he already has the pants and shirt, all you need is a great coat in flannel or corduroy.

I really love the softness of linen pants for men, especially if we’re going to in the water or woods. Pair them with a solid t-shirt, linen button down or a sweater.

See how the softness of everyone’s clothing really lends to the romantic and connected nature of the image? It really goes a long way!

An open jacket or corduroy shirt is a always a great option over a T-Shirt or plain shirt. It’s a great way to bring in some more color!

If they are a jeans guy, try a dark blue or black and paired with great shoes- NOT dress shoes. Again, make sure they can sit and move in them!

Here is another example of layering an overcoat with more casual pieces to elevate the look.

This is a great mountain man/natural look. It brings in a print and has layering with great shoes!

If we are going to be using water, make sure your partner has pants that can roll up at the bottom and still look nice.

CROSS AND CROWN

Spring and Fall are great for T-shirt guys. A bright white T with an open linen or corduroy shirt looks great. You can even make it a cool band T-shirt or their fave worn in shirt!

HUCKBERRY

These corduroy pants are popular for a reason. They fit really well while also allowing for movement. And they come in great colors!

For a more structured pant, soft chinos work nicely. These have some stretch in them while still giving a more polished look.

so make sure you’re comfortable and everyone is wearing shoes they can adventure in. I also love going barefoot or lace-up leather boots or cute rain boots, even cute sneakers. Think soft, movement, comfort!
